FILM PRODUCTION PLAN
TOPIC: MY PASSION FOR FILM
INTRODUCTION:
Videos from childhood montage: Videos taken from Mixkit. I found great difficulty in finding personal videos from my childhood as the quality was very poor, they were mostly vertical, and the overall tone did not match the idea of my film. I used copyright-free videos to solve this issue by downloading videos straight from the site.
During the videos from “My Childhood” playing, I wanted to add sentimental music and decided to keep it throughout the entire film except for one part to ensure smoothness throughout the video. The music used was a mashup of “Scott Street” and “I Know the End” by Pheobe Bridgers, and it is meant to describe feelings of loneliness and alienation, navigating through the world alone. Although it may have a sad tone, in recent times, this song has blown up on the application TikTok as a background sound for memories and reminiscing on the past. I felt as though it would match the vibe of the photos from childhood and maintain a calming sound throughout. This is a form of diegetic sound which is also used for the satisfaction of the audience.
I added the old film camera filter to these clips to signify that these moments were documented on a camera, and emphasise that these clips were filmed years prior. I felt as though it added a more vintage feel to the videos and matched the “film” aspect of the video, and established this from the start.
VOICEOVER: From the moment I was born, my life was on film, being captured and preserved forever becoming an outlet to protect these moments forever. As I grew older I started to realise it is also about telling stories.
Transition: Film reel to match the topic of film.
THE POWER OF FILM:
Utilising videos that I have taken for prior film projects, I matched a word to a clip to showcase how different topics and emotions can be presented by filmmakers. By doing this it shows how easy it is for viewers to associate different emotions with the characters in the film, and how multiple different concepts can be manipulated. Adding the black screen between each clip, made for a clean cut between each following video to separate the different words from one another.
VOICEOVER: Film has the power to convey different feelings and is able to capture different emotions through stunning visuals and sound, which can evoke a range of different emotions from the audience, allowing them to feel with the audience, making them more involved in the storyline.
MY FIRST SHORT FILM (ISSOS):
To include disjunctive editing, I included a hard cut straight from a video from the concept of emotions to a contrasted white screen which violates the viewer’s expectations of continuity. I added these clips as it was a very significant factor in my drive for success in the film industry. I mentioned that it was my first short film which shows that I have been inspired since my first experiences with film creativity and production. I added the title slide of the film to make the audience feel as though they can get a feel for what the short film might have been about through the title “Love Triangle”.
VOICEOVER: After witnessing the expressions of my audience after showing my first short film, I felt inspired.
By removing the background music and the music of the actual short film itself, I decided to add the real-time reaction of the audience when my group presented our work for the whole summer camp. Adding this provides off-screen sound and creates a space to show how the audience became involved with the story of the film and how it got people to laugh, whistle or even the shocked sounds coming from them.
Continuing the sounds of the audience screaming during the fade-out transition gives a sense of continuity and smooth editing which works well with what I discuss next, my future aspirations.
MY DREAMS:
I added videos that I found on the internet to showcase my dream life and what I aspire to achieve while pursuing my dreams. The video of an award being won at the Oscars shows that I want to become known well enough for my work to be recognised and worthy enough to win an accolade. The video of the red carpet emphasises that I can only dream of being invited to events where I can be alongside the world’s most influential and talented people in the entertainment world. The clip of the clapperboard signifies the start of a scene which I want to use as a symbol for my new life and the start of a new chapter in the film industry. The Hollywood sign is an iconic place which represents glamorous and aspirational lifestyles which I strive to accomplish.
The Hollywood sign and the clapperboard were videos taken from MixKit, the Oscars video and the video of the red carpet were taken from YouTube.
Fading in the music that was used at the beginning of the film creates the same smoothness as the beginning. The tone of the music also matches the clips as it shows that it has sentimental value to me and it can represent that even though it may be a hard journey anything is possible.
VOICEOVER: I want to be part of the process of shaping these stories and making them a reality, to see the impact that they can have on people’s lives. I’m committed to working hard to achieve my goals.
ENDING:
To incorporate the 180 rule, I decided to add a personal touch at the end of the film to put a face to my voice and added a clip of me voicing “Film is my passion” which is a use of diegetic sound, and then added a clip of me from a different angle over the shoulder, with the voice-over: “What is yours?”. To add a sense of continuity I added the clip that was shown on my laptop and made for a perfect ending.

To make clear to the audience that the video is coming to an end, I made sure that the music slowly began to fade out which also created a bittersweet feeling as to what is to come of my future.
WHAT COULD I DO BETTER?
I feel as though if I created more vlog-like videos of me talking, that could have felt more personal for my audience and worked well alongside the other videos. I also feel like the videos at the end could have been better as they can feel quite cluttered. The 180 rule is a film aspect that I do struggle with understanding when there is only one person in the frame and I don’t completely understand how to pull it off, therefore, I feel as though it could have been completed way better than I have done. The videos at the beginning of me as a child were not as personal as they should have been as I did not have videos of me as a child so it could be obvious that more than one child was used during the montage, however, this was the best solution to the problem.
