Creative Writing

This creative writing piece is significant as it delves into my inspirations behind why I would love to pursue film and become successful in the industry, talking about my past and my future aspirations.

HOW I BECAME PASSIONATE FOR FILM

“I don’t dream at night, I dream all day; I dream for a living.” This motivational quote belongs to the widely recognised American film director, producer, screenwriter, and entrepreneur Steven Spielberg, who is regarded as one of cinema’s most influential and successful filmmakers. Spielberg’s most iconic and commercially successful films include E.T., Schindler’s List, and Jaws. His on-screen debut has had a significant impact on both viewers and the film industry worldwide, as he initiated significant changes such as introducing new genres, raising awareness and social impact, creating iconic characters, and encouraging the use of one’s imagination. Considering his impact and influence, Speilberg emerged as one of the greatest sources of my inspiration.

Living in a media-oriented age, film and television have had a tremendous influence on nearly every part of my life. Starting from a young age, our views, preconceptions, and opinions regarding social issues and underrepresented communities are heavily influenced by the films we enthral ourselves in. The amusement and thrill we so desperately want are combined with the subtle and effective portrayal of emotion and significant issues in films.  While watching a movie, our conscious minds and our emotional systems come into play and often interact, which can allow thoughts to control the path of feelings. As consumers, we discover how films impact our emotions when they make us want to cry every time we watch a sad movie or scream when we see a scary movie. This effect is created by the talent of those who made the film, and I’ve always found it captivating.

Watching several movies inspired me to explore alternative realities and piqued my curiosity about what I could make to influence people in the same way that I have been. I became deeply involved in the film industry because of my passion which intrigued my desire to learn about what the future might hold and how I can contribute. Growing up with the continuous growth in films and television shows, online communities have enabled fans worldwide to connect over their favourite scenes or characters. Not only that but it’s also turned into a topic on which individuals can build common ground with. Unconsciously, the world of film has captivated us on a worldwide scale and offers comfort in a variety of ways.

From an early age, I took pleasure in making up stories to share with my family and friends. As technology progressed and the digital era arrived, my hobby evolved into trialling the process of creating films. As a result of my experimentation with many genres and techniques, my enthusiasm for films and how they might impact viewers’ thoughts has grown. It thrilled me after I created a romantic comedy that defied social norms, especially after seeing how the large viewing audience reacted. Everything about the filmmaking process was exciting to me, from the pre-production and ideation to the writing of the script, the actual filming, and the creative editing that led to my enthusiasm for the entire process.

The anticipation of what my future holds, the idea of working behind the scenes on a blockbuster movie or being invited to award shows for films I was a role in, is what fuels me to keep pursuing my goal. The rush of excitement I receive from observing the opportunities presented to younger generations for success in the profession is something I hope to achieve. I’m eager to make my mark in the film industry by bringing new perspectives and imaginative ideas to the table, as well as by being one of the masters behind film marketing. Steven Spielberg has impacted me and I could only hope to accomplish half of what he has for film in my life.
